There is plenty to discover at the Aktiv-Hus indoor leisure park, such as the treasure island for kids. Here, the little ones can let off steam on various trampolines or the climbing castle, inspect a lighthouse or play a round of air hockey. Meanwhile, the older ones head to the sports arena: you can play beach soccer and beach volleyball on the huge sandy area. Archery and climbing are also on offer.
All those seeking relaxation can enjoy the spa area. The Aktiv-Hus Spa is conveniently located in the same building and consists of a sauna area, pool, whirlpool and solariums. Various massages and body treatments provide the absolute feel-good factor - have a good time!
Our Scandinavian neighbours are only a few minutes away from Heiligenhafen. And therefore definitely worth a short trip. In addition to the charming nature, small towns and cities, you will find great excursion destinations and plenty of relaxation.
The toll-free Fehmarnsund Bridge takes you to the ferry harbour in Puttgarden. From there, Scandlines ferries leave several times a day for the ferry harbour of Rødby. The crossing takes around 45 minutes. Unique natural spectacle on the Baltic Sea included.
You can find more information about ferry connections and prices here.
The name says it all: our pier in Heiligenhafen is truly an experience! Over a total of 435 metres, you will find play areas for children, various seating and lounging options, a bathing deck and the sea lounge, which you can book for events! The adventure pier not only offers a wonderful view of the Baltic Sea coast and the vastness of the sea, but also many different spots that are waiting to be discovered.
Particularly beautiful: the indirect evening lighting! It bathes the bridge in a wonderful light - and the illuminated railing shows you the way back towards the coast.
The Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn is just a short distance from our beautiful village. You can reach it by car in around 30 minutes - and enjoy the idyllic nature and the many beautiful stretches of beach. There are around 20 of them along the 78 km of coastline. There are natural beaches, sandy beaches and even a cliff - ensuring that there is something for everyone.
Incidentally, the island's landmark is the Fehmarnsund Bridge, which connects the south of the island with the Schleswig-Holstein mainland. Also worth a visit: the many pretty lighthouses, historic churches and the Puttgarden ferry harbour.
The Graswarder nature reserve is located on a peninsula directly opposite the coastal town. You can access it via the Steinwarder in front of it. Covering an area of 230 hectares, the nature reserve is a sanctuary and breeding ground for countless plant and bird species.
Heiligenhafen's most popular photo motif can also be found here: The colourful, thatched houses above the sandy beach & directly in the dunes. They were once built by wealthy members of the German Bathing Society and were initially only connected to the mainland by a wooden footbridge. Today they are listed buildings.
Some parts of the area are closed to tourism.
Tip: Nature conservation wardens offer guided tours of the nature reserve with short presentations between Easter and October! From the observation tower at the end of the peninsula, you have a perfect view of Heiligenhafen, the Baltic Sea and nature.
For bathing beauties and water lovers, there is plenty of cool water, great fun and maximum relaxation on around 1,000 square metres. And the highlight: you can be there in just half an hour. Where? Well, in the Grömitzer Welle.
Whether it's the wave pool, outdoor pool, adventure pool or whirlpool, current channel and slide - you'll find everything you need in this swimming pool de luxe. There are also many course, health and entertainment programmes, a large wellness area, steam bath and various saunas - Finnish, light and biovital as well as panorama with sea view. Absolute highlights are the rain shower and the ice fountain.
Heiligenhafen's local history museum is located in a tranquil setting, in a restored Art Nouveau building. There are all sorts of historical facts to discover: from the town's history to harbour and seafaring to fishing. If you want to know where you are on holiday, you are in good hands here. And to make sure your kids don't get bored, there are lots of activities such as making music, painting, doing jigsaws and learning how to tie a real sailor's knot!
The cliffs of Heiligenhafen are unique. However, it is often ignored - and that is hardly surprising, given the many excursion tips around the coastal town. But we particularly recommend this area to you.
This natural spectacle stretches from the high shore near the lighthouse and runs in a westerly direction. From here, you have a unique view of the Bay of Kiel and Fehmarn. And watch out: Fossils, fossils and amber are sure to be found on the cliffs. But be careful where you step when collecting! Sturdy shoes are also recommended.
By the way: You can find your way to the cliffs by walking west along the beach from the holiday park in the west of Heiligenhafen or by cycling through the meadows.
The Heiligenhafen water sports centre is just a 5-minute walk from the Beach Motel. There you can learn to sail, catamaran, surf, kite or SUP. The spot is particularly suitable for this. With a size of around 1,500 x 500 metres and a water depth of 0.5 to 1.90 metres, the Heiligenhafen inland lake offers very safe conditions for all newcomers. The area also has other ideal conditions: Wind, but few waves, mostly a standing area and no shipping traffic.
Experienced sailors can also hire a boat here - of course only on presentation of your VDS or VDWS sailing licence. So cast off & hit the water!
A trip to Weissenhäuser Strand is a must. It's only a 15-minute drive away and you'll find plenty of fun and relaxation.
And as the name suggests, you have a long and beautiful sandy beach for a great day at the seaside.
